Compassionate end-of-life care
The Residence relies on community support and fundraising activities to raise more than $4.5 million each year, which complements our government subsidy.
The Residence is the realization of a dream by co-founders Teresa Dellar, M.S.C., MSW, PSW, FT and Russell Williams, then a Member of the Quebec National Assembly for the Kirkland area.
After years of fundraising and construction, the West Island Palliative Care Residence first opened its doors in October, 2002. The purpose-built Residence had 9 private beds, and was the first facility of its kind on the island of Montreal. It was renamed to honour the legacy and enormous contribution of Teresa Dellar, who sadly passed away in 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
With its expansion to 23 beds, the Residence is now the largest free-standing palliative care facility in Canada and is recognized as a leader in its field.
Our priority is to relieve suffering, address expectations and heighten the quality of life. Our daily actions translate into hope, warmth, and serenity for our patients and their loved ones.
